One of the top young point guards in basketball switched European powerhouses on Tuesday when Benetton Treviso announced the arrival of Mantas Kalnietis, who inked a three-year deal with his new team. Kalnietis (195, 23) arrives from Zalgiris Kaunas, where he averaged 8.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3 assists in 10 Euroleague games last season. He boosted his numbers up to 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 26 Lithuanian League games. Born in Kaunas and raised in Zalgiris, Kalnietis joined the first team's roster in the 2005-06 season. He has helped Zalgiris win back-to-back Lithuanian League titles in 2007 and 2008. He also won the Baltic League and the Lithuanian Cup in 2008, always with Zalgiris. Kalnietis also paced Zalgiris to the El Corte Ingles Junior Tournament title at the 2003 Final Four in Barcelona and to the the ULEB Summer League trophy in 2007 as MVP.
